M24Case notefranchise ownership as an ETA path

Exploring Franchisees as a Post-MBA Entrepreneurial Path

Peter Mistretta, Jim Sharpe, A. J. Wasserstein. (2023)

Yale Case, no number printed, April 10, 2023

Argues multi-unit franchisee platforms deserve consideration by MBA searchers. The one survey-like number is a co-author's tally: "Jim Sharpe ... estimates in a survey of 187 ETA businesses purchased by Harvard Business School graduates in the past decade that 19 (or 10%) purchased franchise operations" (p2), method not stated and one school only. Unit economics tables are hand-picked brands from franchise disclosure documents. Co-author Mistretta runs a franchise holding company.
