Library/Entrepreneurial entry: takeover versus founding

A7FT50

A study of the impact of owner's mode of entry on venture performance and management patterns

Chaganti, R., & Schneer, J. A. (1994)

Journal of Business Venturing, 9(3), 243-260

Asks whether performance and management patterns differ across owner-started, buyout and family firms. Data: 345 firms with 4 to 99 employees in four northeastern US states; self-reported ROA, sales, strengths, strategies and practices are compared. The portion of the abstract retrieved does not state the findings. (Abstract source: ScienceDirect page, partial.) This is one of the few US micro studies that codes "bought the firm" as an entry mode.
